  1. Mary, I just wanted you to know that your website is my "go-to" place for great recipes. I never have to wonder if things will turn out right, everything I make from here is always PERFECT. I have recommended your site to COUNTLESS people--because I love your recipes...everyone I've told about it loves it, too! Thank you for all that you do!! I LOVE Deep South Dish!

    1. Aw Jen, I really appreciate that. You just made my day!! Thanks so much. A lot of bloggers seem to be on a big race to put up some kind of content every day and though I may be slower, my recipes are more on the traditional - even old fashioned side - and are either old recipes I've used from back in the 1970s as a young bride based on Bell's Best or Betty Crocker (my first cookbooks), handed down from a relative or friend, or personally developed from scratch. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so sometimes when I work up a new recipe, I make it multiple times and revise it before it ever shows up here! I'm glad that it shows. Thank you so much for being a part of the family here and most especially for sharing Deep South Dish with your family & friends & taking the time to stop by and leave me a note of encouragement. That really means a lot to me.

  2. Hi, Jen - first off: I'm a Yankee, who's just moved to California. We were in the mood for Southern BBQ - a friend sent us brisket from Austin. I made collard greens (yes, found some great jam Hicks), beans, slaw and cornbread. What we needed was dessert.

And then we found your Pig Pickin Cake. WOW! Definitely hit the spot and was a huge crowd pleaser (this is the one with pineapple, not oranges). Simple to make and delicious. My 9 year old had 1 suggestion that we incorporated: needed some texture, so how about shredded coconut? We added about a 1/2 cup into the frosting and then sprinkles more on top. Definitely worked!

    So thanks for the recipe!

    1. That cake is always well received. I like the coconut addition too!
