Super Bowl Party Food and Menu Ideas

It's here!!! It's here!!!  The BIGGEST Super Bowl evah for New Orleans Saints fans because, well, it's our very first time in this arena. There is such anticipation and excitement in the air ... kinda like that first kiss.

Oh how I wish I could be in Miami for this game.

Now, of course, we have a fondness for the Manning family down in this area of The South. There's Papa Archie, born in Mississippi, and a former New Orleans Saint himself, and of course, New Orleans born Eli, who was nothing less than a superstar at Ole Miss before his NFL career, and just by virtue of being a Manning, Peyton, also born in New Orleans, of the Indianapolis Colts.

But bottom line is that the Colts are playing our beloved Saints, so overwhelmingly that is who this part of The South is rooting for. Sort of like even though our Mississippi born and reared Brett Favre was playing them for the berth in Miami, and we undoubtedly love our Brett, this part of The South was mostly rooting for the Saints in that matchup too.

Of course, I'd love to see the Saints win, but I gotta be honest - it'll be a tough game with Peyton at the helm, and as far as I'm concerned, it's pretty awesome that the Saints have made it there.  We down South are all so proud of them, win or lose, it doesn't matter. Ok. Maybe it matters, just a little.  Geaux Saints!!

Now, for us Saints fans, there is no better excuse than to have a Mardi Gras themed Super Bowl party. It is that time of year, and what better time to combine the two than while our Saints are headed to the Super Bowl.

But for those of you who are rooting for the other side, or just want more traditional football foods, here's my gathering of favorite, and I think fabulous choices, for football party foods. There's plenty to choose from so no matter who you're rooting for, you're sure to find something here for those hungry fans. Be sure to check back as I update!

Thanks for the great list of ideas, but you'd better get started cooking if you plan to serve them all Sunday.

I just found your blog through Twitter and I am from the south and we just moved to a suburb of Cincinnati Ohio. We LOVE football. We even have season tickets to the Florida State games and we went to New Orleans for the Natl Champ game in 2000. That is the best food I have ever eaten! Anyway, we love Peyton Manning so my husband and son will be pulling for the Colts. Now, any other time I would be pulling for him (and I do think that it is going to be tough for NO to beat them) but my heart wants NO to win just because they have never won or even been for that matter. I just hope for a great game. I am going to make some of your dishes.

Okay, so my husband is the biggest of all Saints fan. We actually have a Saints flag flying in our front yard all the way up here in Amarillo, Texas. Anyhow, to share our menu. We're doing Red Beans & Rice, Boudain and a King Cake. I'm also making a Fleur de Lys shaped cookies! Very excited for this weekend! Geaux Saints!

North San Diego County
California

Dear Mary:

My fiance and I just want you to know how appreciated your website is, from out here in the avocado groves of the "hill country" of North County San Diego.

There is a sizable number of "expatriated" Southerners in the area, among which we number ourselves. (She, by natural temperament, being Italian-Albanian in ethnic extraction, and me, by virtue of having been born and raised in Southwest Louisiana (Lake Charles) and in New Orleans
(Metairie).)

Many thanks for maintaining, as it were, a "sanity lifeline" for those of us who are out here, and not back there. Your recipes are
"spot-on" authentic, and your commentary on both our "Southern way of life" and all things in general, from your outpost looking
over towards Biloxi, is delightful.

Publish your own cookbook, when you are ready - and we'll be the first in line to buy.

And, oh yes..."Geaux Saints!"

Have YOU Been Bamboozled Too?
