Casserole Recipes

A collection of favorite casserole recipes from Deep South Dish.

What Southerner doesn't have an arsenal of casserole recipes in their recipe box? We bring them to potlucks, dinner on the grounds, church socials, to friends who are struggling with an illness and to those who are grieving. Here's a great collection of my personal recipes to choose from, all from Deep South Dish. We've got you covered for all of these occasions, and more!

I often bake my casseroles in my Temptations bakers, or sometimes simply aluminum containers, depending on the event, but these carriers {affil link} are how I transport them. They keep them hot and they never fail to attract a lot of attention too!

Casseroles

Breakfast

This breakfast casserole has become a favorite! Made from scratch with eggs, biscuits and sausage gravy, you can't beat this one for homemade comfort, but a few shortcuts make it even easier if you're running short on time too!

Oven Meat Pies

Who doesn't love a hearty old-fashioned chicken pot pie and this one has beat out quite a few family recipes! Mine is made with a thick and creamy, buttery roux, and filled with chunks of fresh chicken, potatoes, carrots, peas and herbs, and encased, in a flaky top and bottom double crust.

Chicken/Turkey

A Tex-Mex favorite, everybody loves the cream soup version of this casserole dish, but if you want to bump this up to out of this world good, this homemade-from-scratch version of King Ranch Casserole is the ticket. Made using a highly seasoned shredded chicken and a buttery homemade roux-based cream sauce, seasoned with a medley of veggies and peppers, and layered in with cheese and corn tortillas - it's a total yum y'all!

A classic casserole, chicken is paired up with broccoli, rice, cream soup and cheese. Omit the chicken to make it a simple Broccoli and Rice Casserole, or omit the rice for a simple Cheesy Chicken and Broccoli dish.

Beef

Divine Casserole, sometimes called simply Sour Cream Noodle Bake, is sort of a cross between baked spaghetti and lasagna in its flavor. Made with egg noodles tossed with a mixture of cream cheese, sour cream and cottage cheese, layered with a tomato-based meat sauce and shredded cheese, it might just become a family favorite!

Beef and Smoked Sausage Tater Tot Casserole

A basic but flavorful ground beef casserole, this one dates back to the 70s and Bell's Best, one of my first cookbooks as a young bride. Made with sauteed bell pepper, onion and garlic and cooked in a sauce of stewed tomatoes and cream of mushroom soup, a few basic seasonings are added and it's finished with a topping of crunchy fried onions.

If you've got kids, you've probably got the blue box of macaroni and cheese in the pantry. You would not believe the transformation that takes place when using that box as a base for this casserole. It's one of my number one favorite casserole dishes - perfect for the kids, but frankly adults love this one just as much!
