It's very rare that I use canned biscuits on a regular basis for biscuits.

I understand people love them, and yeah, they make quick biscuits for sure, but personally I prefer to make my own biscuits from scratch for biscuit consumption. There's just no comparison.

Easy Apple Pie Skillet Biscuits

I have seen a variation of these apple pie skillet biscuits across social media for so long, that you know I had to eventually try them too, right?!

Made with biscuits and pie filling, they are a sweet treat that's easy to throw together on those cold nights when you want a little something for that sweet tooth.

Ham Bone Dumplings

Ham Bone Dumplings

In the south, we'll drop some biscuit dough in just about any dish with a soup or stew consistency - beans, soup, stews, they're all game. All dumplings require is a full-bodied stock and you're in business.

Starting ham and dumplings with a nice leftover ham bone, or absent that, a couple of meaty ham hocks, makes for a beautiful, rich stock base. The freezer preserved leftover holiday ham bone makes ham dumplings a pretty common thing in the first of the new year, especially when the weather outside's been frightening.

Egg, Biscuit and Sausage Gravy Breakfast Casserole

This is another one of those recipes that's been making the rounds on Facebook for awhile, made with canned biscuits, a packet of sausage gravy and eggs. Nothing wrong with that!

I wanted to make it from scratch though, so I made up a quick biscuit dough and easy homemade sausage gravy instead. You may certainly exchange that out for the convenience products to save time, but do keep in mind the sodium levels on any pre-packaged product so that you don't oversalt or overseason. You'll need an 8-count can of refrigerated biscuits and a packet of sausage gravy mix that makes 2 cups (such as Pioneer brand).

Chuckwagon Casserole

It's no secret that I love casseroles - and yes, I love them any time of the year because they generally take little prep work and then go into the oven freeing up your time to do other things. They are an easy way to get a filling and tasty meal on the table with not a lot of effort too.

I know a lot of people want to switch over to no-cook meals, main dish salads, sandwiches, and cooking outside when the summer heat kicks in, but my husband still likes a meal, no matter the season, and cooking outside is pretty rough on me with the heat. Thank goodness for the modern convenience of air conditioning is all I can say!

A reader over on the Facebook page asked about these little southern delicacies and we started chatting about everybody's favorites, and of course, impressionable me, decided I had to make some right away! I get cravings thrown on me like that all the time.

Bite Size Bacon and Tomato Biscuit Cups with Basil

I went to a party recently where one of the guests brought some little biscuit cups similar to this. Well, they were delicious!

When I asked them what was in them, she said they had bacon, tomatoes, Swiss cheese and mayonnaise.

Well, of course, I came home set on recreating them!

Chicken & Spinach Cups

This is an adaptation of a recipe I pulled from a magazine a year ago. The ad was for Heinz Home Style jarred chicken gravy and Wyler's beef bouillon. Why the combination of beef bouillon with chicken gravy, I don't know but that's what it was.
