It's been quite a few years since I've used an oven cooking bag, though there was a time when they were pretty popular for home cooks. Considering they are still available today, apparently some folks continue to use them, most often I think for cooking holiday turkeys, since they are so easy to overcook otherwise and can be very dry. Better chances with an oven bag!

Initially I bought these to try one of Justin Wilson's recipes - he seemed to have used them quite a bit back in the day - but never got around to that recipe, so I thought why not try one with a ham since at the time of this writing, Easter is right around the corner! Ya gotta admit. That looks really good doesn't it?

Apple and Pineapple Jezebel Glazed Ham

I love cooking a baked ham all year round, so it's not just a holiday thing for me. I cook them for a planned meal, then put up freezer bags of vacuum-sealed ham chunks and the ham bone for later.

I wanted to give y'all another ham and had in mind the old school, traditional pineapple ham made with 7-up, Sprite or ginger ale, but decided to step it up a little bit by incorporating elements from my jezebel sauce, which is often used as a side condiment with baked ham, but using it here instead as a glaze.

Grilled Pork Chop with Pepper Jelly Glaze

Everybody around the country who gets snow in the winter waits for the summer ritual of opening up their patio grill, but we grill all year round in the Deep South and honestly, summers here are really our least favorite time for grilling. Oh we do it, but it's hotter than hot, and not super pleasant.

Now that I have a nice, shady covered patio with a ceiling fan though, it's made a huge difference, and I have sure been working my grills around here! I think I've grilled more this last year than I did in years at my old house. Grilling is fast, easy and doesn't heat up the kitchen - which is a bonus in this summer heat. I've even baked on my Traeger pellet grill {affil link} instead of using my oven! But... for me, there is one issue.
