Air Fryer Pickle Juice Wings

Close-up of crispy golden chicken wings on a plate, lightly glazed with Italian dressing and seasonings.
These Air Fryer Pickle Juice Wings are tangy, lightly sweet, and perfectly seasoned with layers of flavor from pickle brine, Italian dressing, and a blend of spices. They cook up crispy on the outside and juicy inside, with oven and grill options included so you can make them any time of year.

If you’ve been around here a minute, you already know I love a good wing night and I love preparing them in the air fryer. These Air Fryer Pickle Juice Wings are one of my new favorites!

They’re tangy from a splash of pickle juice, lightly spicy from hot sauce, and seasoned all the way through. The Italian dressing trick gives them that glossy, golden finish that tastes like you fussed - even though you didn’t.

Although I ran mine through the air fryer, I’ve included oven‑baked and grilled versions too, so you can make them year‑round. However you cook them, they come out juicy inside, crispy outside, and absolutely addictive.

Why Pickle Juice Works

Pickle brine is salty, tangy, and lightly sweet - perfect for tenderizing wings and boosting flavor without a long marinade.

Bread & Butter vs. Dill

Bread & butter pickle juice gives a sweet‑tangy glaze. Dill brine gives a sharper, more savory finish. Both work beautifully.

Air Fryer vs. Oven vs. Grill

Air Fryer: Fastest, crispiest, most even browning.

Oven: Great for large batches; slower but reliable.

Grill: Smoky, charred edges - amazing with the pickle‑Italian dressing combo.

Here's what you'll need to make my Air Fryer Pickle Juice Wings:

  • 3 to 4 pounds chicken wings, cut apart at joints, wing tips discarded
  • 2 tablespoons pickle juice (I used Amish Wedding bread and butter (#ad))
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1/2 cup olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon kosher or sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Creole or Cajun seasoning, optional
  • 1 tablespoon pickle seasoning, optional
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup Italian dressing
  • 2 teaspoons all‑purpose seasoning (I used Goya Sazonador Total (#ad))

Here's how to make them!

I'm using Good Chop chicken wings which are a quality product and the perfect sized wing. If you're dealing with those extra-large, sodium plumped grocery store wings, you'll likely need to make some adjustments in your timing and also consider that salt with your other added seasonings.

You'll need some pickle juice. I've been trying a wide variety of pickles here lately, many varieties of dill including hot, but truth is, while I do love kosher dills, I always seem to revert back to a sweeter pickle and bread and butter is my favorite. Use whatever is your favorite.

Pat wings dry. Toss with pickle juice and hot sauce.

Mix salt, pepper, Cajun or Creole seasoning and pickle seasoning, if using.

I am! Now this is totally optional, but there are these new pickle seasoning products (#ad) that have appeared on the market here recently and I had purchased the Hold the Pickle brand seasoning to try. I thought this would be a great recipe to also include it. There are several brands and versions available, but this one contains salt, onion, sugar, vinegar powder, garlic, dillweed, allspice, coriander, mustard, natural onion flavor, dillweed oil and sunflower oil.

Add olive oil or melted butter and toss.

Sprinkle half of the seasonings over wings and give it a toss.

A hand sprinkling a seasoning blend over the wings in the bowl.

Sprinkle on the rest of the seasonings and toss again. Rest 15 minutes.

I decided to also add a little extra all-purpose seasoning and thought this Sazonador Total would be a good option. Badia, Dan O's, Lawry's and Cavender's are all good choices - use whatever you've got!

All‑purpose seasoning sprinkled generously over the dressed wings.

Preheat air fryer to 400°F for at least 2 minutes. I'm using my oven style Ninja Foodi Double Oven air fryer (#ad) today, which is 1800 watts. Lightly oil basket or trays and arrange wings in a single layer.

Lightly dab the wings with Italian dressing. You don't want them heavily coated though! I'm just using a good ole Great Value classic zesty Italian dressing.

Wings lightly brushed or dabbed with Italian dressing before adding final seasoning and ooking.

Then sprinkle all over with all‑purpose seasoning.

Air fry 20 minutes, shaking or swapping trays halfway. For basket models, return all wings to basket and air fry 2 minutes more. Serve right away.

Reminder: Just like ovens, individual air fryer brands differ in wattage and how they cook; monitor any air fryer recipe the first time you make it to adjust time as needed. Total time will also depend on type and size of ingredients used.

What to Serve with These Wings

These pair beautifully with:

  • Classic Ranch or my Comeback Sauce - always.
  • Celery and carrot sticks for crunch.
  • Potato salad or macaroni salad for that classic cookout plate.
  • Corn on the cob or grilled veggies - if you’re already firing up the grill.
  • Cold pasta salad, especially those with olives and tomatoes because the tang plays so well with the wings.
  • French fries or air fryer potato wedges if you want to keep everything crispy.

FAQ

Can I marinate the wings longer?

Yes - up to 4 hours. Any longer and the texture can soften too much.

Can I use frozen wings?

Thaw first for best browning.

Can I double the recipe?

Yes, but air fry in batches.

Variations and Add‑Ins

• Spicy Dill Wings: Use dill pickle juice and add 1/2 teaspoon cayenne or crushed red pepper.

• Sweet Heat Wings: Add 1 tablespoon honey to the Italian dressing before dabbing.

• Lemon Pepper Pickle Wings: Add 1 teaspoon lemon pepper seasoning and use dill brine.

• Garlic Butter Wings: Swap the olive oil for melted garlic butter and add 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder.

• Smoky BBQ Pickle Wings: Add a pinch of smoked paprika and brush lightly with BBQ sauce the last 5 minutes.

• Ranch Pickle Wings: Sprinkle with dry ranch seasoning instead of all‑purpose seasoning.

Whether you air fry them, bake them, or take them out to the grill, these Pickle Juice Wings are just plain fun to eat.

They’ve got that sweet‑tangy‑salty thing going on, a little heat, and a whole lot of flavor. Perfect for game day, movie night, or when you just want something a little different from the usual buffalo.

If you make them, let me know how they turned out - y’all know I love hearing from you!
