This is my good ole standby brownie recipe that I thought one day, why not add that old fashioned peanut butter icing I love so much as an icing. The results were delicious. I loved it and I think you will too.

Mary's Gooey Brownies with Peanut Butter Icing
From the Kitchen of Deep South Dish
3/4 cup cocoa
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2/3 cup canola oil, divided
1/2 cup boiling water
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 handfuls of walnuts or pecans, chopped
Stir cocoa and baking soda together. Blend 1/3 c. veg. oil into cocoa until well mixed and shiny.
Add boiling water, stir until thickened.
Add in sugar, remaining 1/3 c. oil, and eggs, stirring until smooth. Add flour, vanilla and salt, blending completely. Add nuts. Pour into a lightly greased 13 x 9 metal baking pan and bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool and frost with Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Icing.
Note: I use Hershey's cocoa and White Lily flour.

These look so good. My granddaughter will love helping me make them. Chocolate and peanut butter, how can you go wrong. I haven't used margarine in 25 years, honest!
ReplyDeleteThey ARE good too! Truthfully I don't usually put frosting on them, but I had a bit of a craving for Southern Plate's peanut butter icing so thought it would be a good combo. I'm with ya on the margarine - only butter and ONLY Land O' Lakes for this gal! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteooohhh yes! i love cakey brownies, anything rich and chocolatey. The peanut butter addition sounds perfect as well ~
