Dressed up Bottled Barbecue Sauce

I have a favorite homemade barbecue sauce that I like to use for chicken and ribs and a favorite bottled sauce I like to buy - original Sweet Baby Ray's is my favorite right off the shelf sauce. But... it is a bit more costly than the cheaper versions, which can almost always be found on sale somewhere.  You can easily dress up those cheaper versions and make them taste pretty darned good - and nobody has to know but you!  Here's how.

Dressed up Bottled Barbecue Sauce
From the Kitchen of Deep South Dish

1 (18 ounce) bottle of cheap bottled
   barbecue sauce (about 2 cups)
1/2 cup of ketchup
1 teaspoon of mustard
Couple dashes of hot sauce
Dash of Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup of packed light brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon of Slap Ya Mama, or your favorite
   Cajun/Creole seasoning, or to taste, optional

Combine all ingredients and use with your favorite recipe!

  1. We are all about this same exact thing! Take bottled bbq sauce and make it better. It's such an easy way to make somethign yours.

  2. I call it Rigging It. :) I also have tried different additives. Try these too:
    Orange (cut in half and Squeezed)
    Beer
    Molasses
    maple syrup
    chipolte pepper

    I do not use all these at the same time but I mix it up and keep people guessing about my sauce.
