Absolutely Perfect Shrimp and Crab Boil

A nicely seasoned boil mix for shrimp or crabs.

Shrimp and Crab Boil

Seriously. This is the absolute perfect shrimp and crab boil recipe. I swear!

Well, I think it is anyway.

Now first, let me get this out of the way - this is more about the boil seasoning, than it is about the boiling. You can boil the tiniest of shrimp, or the super colossal ones with this same boil. The mixture here will do somewhere between 3 to 5 pounds of the larger shrimp, a larger quantity of the smaller, but the soaking time will vary accordingly. So, test your shrimp and remove them when they are done.

Fried Chicken Seasoning Blend

Fried Chicken Seasoning Blend - my take on the 11 herbs and spices KFC copycat.

Fried Chicken Seasoning Blend

This seasoning blend is my take on the KFC copycat seasonings that can go with any good Southern Fried Chicken. You have to have a commercial pressure fryer to get the texture of KFC's original recipe though and since most of us don't own one of those, we'll have to settle for open fryer chicken, which is more crisp than the original recipe. Still good though!

Add a salt brine for a few hours or use a brief dip in a buttermilk marinade to make it Southern Buttermilk Fried Chicken, if ya like. Simply add buttermilk to a large bowl and sprinkle it with hot sauce - enough to just give it color, or as much as you want! Add the chicken (brined or not) to the buttermilk, let marinade in the fridge a few more hours to overnight. When you're ready to fry, remove the chicken, shake off the excess buttermilk, and dredge it in a mixture of seasoned flour and fry.

Bell's Seasoning Copycat

A great combination of seasonings, perfect for dressing and stuffing, but has a multitude of uses also.

Bell's Seasoning Copycat

You can purchase Bell's seasoning at a variety of stores across the nation, yes, even in the south (yes, now even in my south) or online from a number of sources, but if you've forgotten to pick it up, this is a copycat version that you can get by with in the meantime. Use it to season burgers, meatloaf, chicken, soups, stews, and more, but especially stuffing!
