Brrrr... it's cold and tonight I am craving a steaming cup of creamy, rich, chocolate decadence. Italian hot chocolate. I swear, it's like drinking a chocolate bar. Pure heaven.
Italian Hot Chocolate
From the Kitchen of Deep South Dish
1 cup of milk
1 cup of heavy cream
6 ounces of 70% dark chocolate, broken up
5 tablespoons Hershey's Dutch-process
Dark Cocoa Powder
2 tablespoons sugar
Whipped cream, optional
In a small saucepan over low heat, add the milk, heavy cream, and chocolate. Cook until chocolate melts, stirring occasionally. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder and sugar; and whisk into the milk mixture. Heat until the sugar melts and no lumps remain, stirring well. Bring heat up to a low boil and cook, whisking constantly until smooth and creamy. Pour into pretty cups, top with a spoon of whipped cream if desired and savor.
