Sloppy Joe Bake

The Cajun loves my homemade sloppy joes, but my hamburger buns were a little on the not so fresh side, so I decided to go with the baked version this time. It's a delicious and creative way to change up the sloppy joe routine - plus there's cheese involved!

Here's how to make this delicious Sloppy Joe Bake, and as always just swipe or scroll a little further down the page, past the step by step pictures to access the complete recipe text, with ingredient list, measurements and a printable document.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add the trinity and cook until softened, but not brown. Add the ground beef and garlic and cook until ground beef is browned, breaking the meat up with a meat or potato masher.

Depending on the fat percentage of the ground beef you use, you may need to drain off any excess oil. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, tomato sauce and ketchup. Simmer for about 15 minutes or until mixture begins to thicken. Add salt and pepper; taste and adjust seasonings as needed.

Spoon into 9 x 13 inch casserole dish. Sprinkle 2 cups of the cheese all over the top. Butter the cut sides of the buns and place on top, cut side up. Sprinkle tops of rolls with remaining cheese. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until nicely browned on top.

Serve with a salad and some fries and dig in!
