Southern Thanksgiving Dinner Classics

A classic Southern Thanksgiving meal in my family - roasted turkey with from scratch gravy, homemade mashed potatoes, baked ham, chicken and dressing, sweet potato casserole, spinach Madeline, corn spoonbread, hashbrown casserole and glazed carrots.

Southern Thanksgiving Dinner Classics

I have a huge collection of Thanksgiving appropriate recipes that covers everything from beverages, to appetizers, to salads, main dish meats, side dishes and desserts, and everything in between.

It's a perfect resource for those who are not committed to any set menu and for adventurous souls who just want to do something a little different every year.

It's also a great source for those who don't cook a lot and need to find a single side dish or dessert to carry for dinner elsewhere. They are all my recipes, all tried and true and all hosted on Deep South Dish.

In my family growing up and now, there are the standard traditional dishes that we love and expect on the table every single Thanksgiving dinner. Sometimes there's a little extra here and there, like oyster dressing or green bean bundles. Though I tried to stick pretty close to what is pictured on the plate here, this post is a representation of our usual dinners.

I hope you find something here that's helpful for your family dinner!

Though not pictured here, we always start with a seafood gumbo. You can find those recipes here. On the other side of my family, it's chicken gumbo. You can find some of those recipes here.

My classic oven roasted turkey begins with a brine, then is left uncovered in the fridge overnight, is trussed, then stuffed with aromatics, and basted with a turkey or chicken stock or broth that is infused with apple cider throughout the roast.

Corn spoon bread goes by a number of names, but it's basically a souffle made of cornmeal, corn, sour cream, milk, eggs and butter. A wonderful side dish for any holiday.
