For awhile it looked like they might reopen it but nothing has come of it sadly. I hate that we've lost so many of the old fabulous restaurants. I would so love to see some of them make a comeback!

Oh WOW...what a flashback thinking about White Pillars! I spent several summers in Biloxi back in the 70's and loved going to White Pillars! I remember going to Maison Blanche to buy a beautiful long summer dress to wear to dinner the first time I went. I have such fond memories of those days!

I read about this and then we asked Georgo Trojanovich (at Mary Mahoney's) for confirmation....he says it really does work! Get yourself a blacklight....the shell pieces glow under the blacklight. Google: "Behind the Scenes at le Bernardin: blacklight for crabshell" for a photo!

Hi Mary. This post put a huge smile on my face because growing up, my dad hosted his regional meetings in Biloxi and I have so many memories of White Pillars. We would either go there or Mary Mahoney's. I was in Biloxi a few months ago and saw the the boarded up White Pillars building and it brought back a lot of memories as well. I was a little girl and don't really remember much about what I ate there, but I do remember the dessert room. This recipe sounds fantastic.

well, as you know, i have a soft spot in the brightly colored corners of my soul for New Orleans... Now I need to hunt this cookbook down. Keep these recipes alive.

BTW, I only recently decided I like eggplant... Spent 50 years duck and covering whenever eggplant was mentioned. Now I am trying to hunt the recipes down!
