Full Moon Bar-B-Que Ultimate BBQ Box Review

Rub - Top - Mop - Dip Check out the Ultimate BBQ Box from Alabama's Full Moon Bar-B-Que - one of the top ten restaurants in the U.S.! Southern Seasoning (rub), Chow-Chow (top), their award winning Bar-B-Que Sauce (mop) and the fabulous and famous, north Alabama white sauce (dip). Heaven in a box!

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have taken notice in a few posts here and there, some products from Full Moon Bar-B-Que making an appearance. You may have also noticed, one or the other has made its way into a few of my recipe posts here on the blog in the past few weeks too.

Well, that's because the good folks there at Full Moon were kind enough to send me a sampling from what they call their Ultimate BBQ box, containing their award winning line up of sauces and seasoning, including Southern Seasoning, Chow-Chow, Bar-B-Que Sauce and their Alabama White Sauce.

A Birmingham-based chain of barbecue restaurants, acquired in 1997 by the Maluff brothers, Full Moon Bar-B-Que has become an Alabama sensation, with eleven restaurants all over the state. Food is made fresh daily there, with good barbecue basics and the use of slow cooking, hickory wood fire pits and is what so many patrons have come to love. Demand from customers is, in fact, what brought their sauces and other products to local grocery stores, and now available for purchase at the restaurants and online.

The barbecue sauce is the perfect style of sauce that we love down here in the Deep South - tomato based, with molasses and brown sugar, for the sweet, and a little bite of spicy - it was gone way before I was ready for it to be. Just delish!

Easy Barbecued Pork Chops, just season 'em up, add a little onion, pour on the sauce and bake!
The Southern Seasoning has been used over and over and over in my kitchen... just about every time that I was using salt and pepper on something, I reached for it. I love it! The blend is proprietary, so I can't tell you what's in it other than that, but I can tell you that it makes for a great all-purpose seasoning for any dish from burgers, to vegetables, chicken, pork and beef, and it's ideal for grilling and smoking.

Chow Chow is a mustard and ketchup based relish made with cabbage, carrots, onions, and green and red bell peppers. It's a southern favorite and is most often used with beans, primarily pintos or black-eyed peas around here, but it's also great for a variety of dishes you may not have thought of.

Mix some in pasta salads, potato salads, spread on sandwiches and burgers, spoon into deviled eggs and egg salads or use it as a basic side relish with many foods. Full Moon Bar-B-Que's version is spicy-sweet, all natural and organic, and in terms of BBQ, it's perfect spooned on top of ribs, spread on sliced pork sandwiches, or topped over pulled pork or pulled chicken sandwiches.
Now, Alabama "White Sauce," commonly referred to white barbecue sauce, really took me by surprise, because I'll be honest with y'all - it's more of a north Alabama thing and pretty much unheard of in south Mississippi. In fact, I never knew about it at all, until I started blogging.

It is definitely a tad bit different from any sauce most southerners are used to putting on their grilled and smoked meats. The base ingredients are usually mayonnaise, vinegar, salt and pepper, and like everything else we cook down here, what else varies from household to household. I can tell you one thing - Full Moon's version is delicious.

On some grilled burgers.

On my beer marinated grilled chicken.

And another grilled chicken - recipe coming soon!
I think it is safe to say that I have fallen in love with Alabama white sauce.

You can also use it on salads and as a dipping sauce. Now, in all fairness, if you don't care for mayonnaise, or mayonnaise based recipes, you probably won't like Alabama white sauce. But, if like me, you're a mayonnaise lover, I think that you will enjoy trying this sauce and how convenient that it's perfectly blended for you in a shelf-stable product from a fabulous barbecue joint? It is so good!

Of course, the best way to go with all of this, in my little ole humble opinion, is to pick up the Ultimate BBQ Box where you'll get them all. What a great collection y'all! I'm fixin' to reorder me one myself along with some of those Half Moon cookies, deemed to be among the "100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die"by the Alabama Department of Tourism in conjunction with their Year of Alabama Food in 2012.

If you ever happen upon a Full Moon Bar-B-Que restaurant in your travels, stop in and visit. Besides their award winning barbecue, you find a menu fit for a variety of tastes with fresh salads, hand-breaded chicken tenders, farm-raised catfish, buffalo-style wings and overstuffed baked potatoes. Full Moon is the "Best Little Pork House in Alabama."™
