|A great sweet Chex Mix treat for Halloween.|
Halloween Chex MixCan you believe that it's the end of October already? And... guess what? We finally got some cool temperatures y'all. I was so happy I made chicken and dumplings on Sunday! Gonna be a chilly Halloween this year and speaking of that, I decided I needed to make up a batch of Halloween Chex mix. You know, for the grandkids.
Now, y'all know I love me some Chex Mix, although I am most partial to the old original-original savory version myself. These days though, there must be thousands of ways to create a mix using Chex cereals - in fact, Chex has an entire website dedicated to them all!
This version is a variation of one of those and is perfect for our sweet indulgent Halloween festivities, although it can easily be adapted to suit other holidays too. It's certainly sweet, and everybody who eats it says the same thing - it's a little addictive!
Candy corn is typical in this mix, but there was nary a bag to be found at the store when I went, so I used some of Brach's Indian Corn mix instead. It's got a touch of cocoa to it and is very tender in comparison to regular candy corn. Not being a huge fan of candy corn, except in small bits like in a mix like this, I really liked this variety! I also used white almond bark candy coating, just because it's easy to work with but you can also use white chocolate chips or even a white chocolate baking bar if you like. Change the cereal and the add-ins to your liking.
Chex Mix is always great in a big bowl on any party table. To keep folks from hand dipping back and forth in the mix, be sure to add a couple of serving spoons to your bowl and some small candy cups. When spooned into bags, this also makes a great party favor too. Just put all the bags into a bowl, or a cauldron by the door, tie with a ribbon and add a cute party related tag if you like.
This is a great mix for Halloween and it takes no time to throw together. Here's how to make it.

Recipe: Halloween Chex Mix©From the Kitchen of Deep South Dish
Prep time: 10 min | Yield: About 18 (1/2 cup) servings
- 4 cups of Rice Chex cereal
- 2 cups of bite-size pretzel twists, sticks, nibblers or balls
- 2 cups of salted peanuts, divided
- 1/2 cup of golden raisins
- 4 squares of white almond bark, coarsely chopped
- 1 cup plain M&Ms or Reese’s Pieces
- 1 cup candy corn
- 1/4 cup mixed orange and black sprinkles
- 1 (6 ounce) package Crunch and Munch or Caramel Corn
Line a baking pan with aluminum foil or wax paper. Mix the cereal, pretzels, 1 cup of the peanuts and the raisins in an extra large bowl or pot; set aside. In a smaller bowl, microwave the almond bark according to package directions until melted and fluid. Pour over the cereal mixture and toss. Quickly add half each of the M&Ms or Reese’s pieces, candy corn and sprinkles; toss. Add the remaining half of the M&Ms, candy corn and sprinkles. Add the crunch and munch and the rest of the peanuts; toss again.
Immediately spread out over the prepared baking sheet and let cool completely. Transfer to a large serving bowl or individual bags and tie with a decorative ribbon.
