Weekend Cocktails - Southern Iced Tea Cocktail

A very refreshing adult beverage, this cocktail is somewhat of a cross between a Long Island Iced Tea and an Arnold Palmer. A perfect beverage for porch sittin'!

Southern Iced Tea Cocktail

With summer unofficially here, and certainly by mother nature's standards, I set out to make a refreshing weekend cocktail perfect for hanging out on the porch under the ceiling fan and with the absolute intention that it needed to be composed of southern iced tea in some manner.

There is truly nothing in this part of The South that refreshes and cools you down on a hot day like a cold glass of iced tea, and while some southerners skip the lemon, there are others of us that feel it is a natural extension of the beverage. To me, the tartness of the lemon against the sweetness of the tea are just a perfect marriage, so I knew this cocktail had to also contain those elements. I started with using just one liquor, but found the drink to be far too flat, so I experimented a bit until I found this mixture of clear liquors that worked perfectly and of course, some simple syrup to add the sweetness.

Sort of a mix between a Long Island Iced Tea and an Arnold Palmer, what resulted was a wonderfully refreshing cocktail, perfect for kicking off the weekend.  Park yourself in a comfy chair, kick off your shoes, put your feet up and sip on this while you listen to the sounds of the evening roll in. As easy as this goes down, be careful though.  This one will sneak up on you. Use pint sized Mason jars, if you prefer to share.

By the way, if you're clicking over here from a search engine lookin' for regular ole sweet southern iced tea just click right here. Unless, of course, you're curious about what the heck a southern iced tea cocktail is now, and then, well let's just carry on!
