St. Patrick's Day Recipe Ideas
Now, I know a lot of folks make all kinds of crazy dyed food on St. Paddy's Day, but I'm not big on green colored foods - unless they were intended that way by nature of course - and I'm not much crazy about green beer either, though I suppose I drank my share of them on St. Patrick's Day at places like Mary Mahoney's and the Fiesta... back in the day.
Well, the Fiesta nightclub is long gone, and while Mahoney's restaurant is alive and well, they sadly do not have the big SPD party anymore, though downtown Biloxi has revived it and every year the Hibernia Marching Society has a parade. But, as far as food goes for St. Patrick's Day in the United States, one thing is certain. You're not likely to see a whole bunch of what folks in Ireland would consider to be "authentic" Irish foods, but... since it's an American celebration for St. Patrick's Day, that is okay!
Any number of dishes that are green in color, are shaped like a shamrock, include Guinness beer or sauerkraut, or are made of cabbage or potatoes, will work for your menu. I have a few other recipes I like to share especially for St. Patrick's Day - like Irish Soda Bread, Colcannon and Irish Champ Potatoes, Potato Soup and Irish Stew, made with lamb shanks - just in case you'd like to try them - and those are actually pretty authentic Irish foods
Although there is always an argument every year that corned beef isn't a "traditional" Irish meal, it was certainly made popular with hard-working Irish immigrants arriving in this country with limited means and to low paying job, because corned beef was cheap and affordable back then. Since cabbage with bacon is certainly a popular dish in Ireland even today, and since corned beef isn't a far stretch from bacon, I think it's safe to say that corned beef is fitting for an American celebration of St. Patrick's Day. I've included my corned beef cabbage hash and my shortcut corned beef and cabbage for these very reasons.

Noodles and Cabbage
Noodles and cabbage aren't traditional Irish fare, as far as I know, but I do think this is a fitting side dish for any St. Paddy celebration, so I've included it in our American line-up.
