| A decadent buttery garlic French bread stuffed with gooey cheese and sprinkled with garlic powder and parsley. An indulgence for sure. |
Cheesy Garlic Bread
Now, when I make this Cheesy Garlic Bread, I don't generally do the whole loaf, because, well... it's just me and The Cajun, and I would definitely eat the whole loaf! Besides being a book addict, I am also a lover of bread. All kinds. Especially freshly baked bread. And freshly baked French bread, most especially. And let me tell you. This bread is some kinda good. So if you're feedin' your family, or having a party, go right ahead and make the whole loaf. Since you have other folks to share it with and all.You can use whatever cheese you like with this, but I'm most fond of the white cheeses here. Mozzarella is perfect, but I used white American cheese in this picture because that is what I had to use up. Feel free to use shredded mozzarella - just put a big pinch or so between each slice. You can also smoosh up some fresh garlic which is amazing - but sometimes that good old garlic powder just simplifies things, ya know?
This is a no-recipe recipe, so there's really no measurements either - just use everything to your taste!

If you think this sounds yummy, I'd sure ♥ it if you'd click to pin it, tweet it, stumble it, or share it on Facebook to help spread the word - thanks!

Recipe: Cheesy Garlic Bread
©From the Kitchen of Deep South Dish
Prep time: 5 min |Cook time: 20 min | Yield: About 4 to 6 servings
Ingredients
Instructions
- 1 loaf of French bread
- Slices of Mozzarella or White American cheese
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) of real, pure butter, softened to room temperature
- Couple dashes of garlic powder
- Couple shakes of dried parsley
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cut slits in the bread about an inch apart, but don't cut all the way through to the bottom of the bread. Place the bread on a large piece of aluminum foil with enough excess to wrap the bread tightly all the way around. Cut the cheese into slices about 1/4-inch thick and insert a slice of cheese into each slit.
In a small bowl, mix the butter, garlic powder and parsley together until well blended. Smear the top and sides with the butter mixture and seal the whole loaf up tightly for soft bread, wrap the foil up around the sides and leave the top exposed to give it a nice crunch on top.
Bake at 350 degrees F for about 15-20 minutes, or until cheese is melted. Slice all the way through to serve.
Cook's Notes: Can substitute your own favorite cheese; okay to substitute shredded also.

Oh, my, but this looks good and to think it's figure friendly, too:-).
ReplyDeleteIt's a really nice recipe. You've made me hungry.
You and me and bread...that's my real weakness! This looks so gooey and cheesy - I am drooling!
ReplyDeleteHow addictive!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary,
ReplyDeleteTracie here in WV - our AC is STILL OUT! This recipe is so tempting! But if I even attempt to turn on that oven my hubby not be too happy!
Tracie
Hey This bead looks awesome. I think I like bread almost as much as chocolate. Texas toast works great with a recipe like this. I buy bread at the local bread store and always pick up a loaf or two of Texas toast.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bread girl too. Confession: I spent some serious time with a loaf of fresh french bread and an olive oil/balsamic vinegar dip last night after everyone went to bed. I still feel guilty.
ReplyDeleteThis looks SO good. I love the idea of white American cheese here too. Yummy!
Oh this is what I call a bt of Heaven.
ReplyDeleteWell, this just look DELISH! I'm thinking about spaghetti for tonight, so Cheesy Garlic Bread will fit right in. Stopping by from SITS to Share the Comment Love...
ReplyDeleteOMG this looks so awesome and easy. Cheese and bread....two of my food weaknesses. Just stopped in from SITS to say hello and look around....nice!
ReplyDeleteBread is so my weakness! Especially garlic bread let along cheesy garlic bread.
ReplyDeleteI vote for you every day I come visit you! I hope you do well!
Christy
I took a meal to my neighbor yesterday, she recently had surgery, and I made this bread (ok, I bought the garlic bread, and just added the cheese) AND your meatballs. It was like the whole meal was from you too! lol :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, woman!! We walked out of Walmart with 2 loaves of the hot bread yesterday...one remains. I am totally making THIS stuffed with my just made mozarella! Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteThanks everybody!! It is gooey, and cheesy, and not figure friendly at all, but OH so so so good!
ReplyDeleteTracie, I honestly do not know how you are surviving without A/C. After Katrina it was awful not having electricity. We finally drove to Florida and let me tell you, a burger from Burger King, some air conditioning and a hot shower were the best things in the world that day!! You could wrap this up and cook it outside on the grill too. All you're really doing is melting all that gooey-ness anyway - try it!
Aww, Krystal. You are so sweet to do that for your neighbor and I'm glad I was a small part of it!!
Krista, I LOVE bread with olive oil, seasonings and a little bit of Parmesan cheese - oh yeah!!
Heather that is PERFECT! I know that you had to enjoy that with the fresh mozzarella. YumYum!!!
Delicious! grand meal prefect for my Sunday brunch...
ReplyDeleteThank You for sharing your recipes :)
Have a wonderful Day ~
Ok I saw the pic of this bread in your sidebard and HAD TO CLICK on it. And now I want some for lunch, and dinner, and I will make the whole loaf - there are five us.
ReplyDeleteStopped by from SITS - fell in love, now this southern gal has to follow you!
Hi Mary, I realize that I am leaving a comment on one of your 2009 posts, but you showed it recently and plus I wasn't following you back in 09, so I didn't get this recipe thru my google reader. I think it sounds simply wonderful....i'm a true bread freak! Cheese and garlic added make this something that I'll love and I know so will the rest of the fam! Hope you're having a nice June!
ReplyDeleteThanks Roz - it's hotter than Hades down here so hard to bear being outside right now for more than 5 minutes. Plus we're in a 20 inch rain deficit down here for the year too, so that's not helping either. Enjoy the bread!
ReplyDeleteGood Lord Mary your recipes look so delicious. Bread... Cheese... my weakness.
ReplyDeleteThanks Judith! Those are two of mine too. :)
