Tuna and Egg Salad

Classic tuna salad mixture of tuna, hard boiled eggs, green onion, celery, pickles and dressed with mustard and mayonnaise.

Now honestly, I guess I wouldn't generally post about making egg salad, or here, tuna & egg salad. Or, maybe I would {scratches head} dunno... but, it gives me an opportunity to tell y'all about my electronic rice cooker - so I figured what the heck.

Can you believe that I'm just now gettin' around to trying out steaming hard boiled (hmm... if they're steamed, I suppose they're not really hard-boiled now are they? but hard-steamed sounds, well, goofy. Oh well, anyway...) eggs?! I'm really liking this little cooker I tell ya. It is Lent afterall and I'm tryin' to do my best to stay away from meat on Fridays and so, I wanted some tuna & egg salad for lunch. But, then ... I got to wondering ...

... do most folks go with sweet pickles or dill pickles? Or do they even put pickles in their tuna salad at all?

I know. I'm such a deep thinker.

But seriously, as I was puttin' mine together, which I always do the same way, all the time, all my life, I got to really wondering how do other people make their tuna salad? Afterall, folks do land here from the interwebs looking for recipes for egg salad and tuna salad.

I think when I make a big batch of hard-cooked eggs, this cooker is gonna be my new favorite way to do them! So, here's how I do my tuna & egg salad.


How do you do yours? Are you a sweet pickle person? Or a dill pickle person? Or ... no pickles at all?

Recipe: Tuna and Egg Salad

Prep time: 10 min | Yield: About 4 servings


Ingredients
  • 2 cans of chunk tuna, in oil, drained
  • 4 hard boiled eggs, chopped
  • 1 green onion, sliced
  • 1 stalk (rib) of celery, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon of yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped sweet or dill pickles or pickle relish
  • Kosher salt & freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
  • Couple dashes of Cajun seasoning (like Slap Ya Mama) and/or hot pepper sauce
Instructions

Combine all ingredients together and refrigerate for several hours to allow flavors to meld. Serve as a sandwich spread, or with crackers, on whole wheat toast or in lettuce cups.

  2. Looks good. I make mine about the same way. I have a rice cooker I can steam in but haven't tried eggs.
    Hubby was just askin' for some tuna salad, guess I'm gonna have to make some.

  3. Never have seen a rice maker, with the steamer for eggs, that's real nice. Eggs came out perfect. I'm a sweet relish girl, and don't tell nobody, but my whole family uses Miracle Whip instead of mayo.....lol. Gonna try your recipe, I like the idea of adding hot sauce. Looks delicious:)

  5. I use sweet pickles, boiled eggs and minced onions are a must! Mixed with Miracle Whip because I don't do Mayo ;D

    I have been lazy a time or two and left out the onions and boiled egg...hubby refuses to eat it that way though so that bowl is all mine!;D

    LOL Tammy - that's funny with your hubby - mine if left on his own will just take tuna fish and mayo straight up. No seasonings, no nothin'! If I don't have green onion, I use good old regular yellow onion too, but it's gotta have some kind of onion for sure!

    And funny story. I work for a restaurant and as a joke my two cooks took a not boiled egg and threw it in the boiled egg pot that was cooling down to be peeled and set aside for salads. While a third and unsuspecting cook went to that egg to peel, he got a surprise.

    No worries, no prepped food for guest consuming was harmed. Just ONE egg.

  9. I make my Tuna salad similar to yours except I don't add any seasoning save a little black pepper; I make my own sweet pickle relish, so I throw some of that in, I probably use a bit more miracle whip and no mustard. The eggs are a must have.

    1. I'd have to agree on the eggs too - well, except for tuna melts. I know some people use the same mix for those but I exclude the eggs.

  11. Girlfriend... I love me some tuna fish salad. I make mine using tuna, mayo, celery seed, red delicious apple, boiled eggs, kosher dill pickles, cracked pepper and it with with crackers. I have been known to put it on wheat bread. My mom uses onion instead of apple and sometimes a fresh tomato but it makes it kinda messy. Will have to try the boiled eggs in my rice cooker!
